How We Work

How things work at Bright Room Community Acupuncture

We treat people with acupuncture in a community setting

Most U.K. acupuncturists treat patients on a one-to-one basis, we don’t.
We follow the traditional Chinese style, where acupuncture usually occurs in a community setting and the practitioner gets to see multiple patients in one hour.
We will ask you a few questions about your condition, and will also rely on pulse and tongue diagnosis to decide how to treat you.

We have a sliding scale

Most U.K. acupuncturists also see one patient per hour and charge £45-£110 per treatment, we don’t.
Research has shown that acupuncture is most effective when it is done frequently and regularly – once a week is usually the minimum required to make progress on any kind of health problem.
And we want to make it possible for you to receive acupuncture regularly enough and long enough to get better and stay better, reason why we have created a sliding scale.
Our sliding scale goes from £25-£45 and you will choose how much you can afford every time. We will NOT ask you to bring proof of your income, as we understand that everyone’s situation is different.

Sustainable model

The Bright room community acupuncture clinic does not receive any funds and it only exists because patients pay for their treatments – it is a sustainable community business model.

What we need from you

We do not provide primary care medicine! Acupuncture is a wonderful complement to Western medicine, but it is not a substitute for it. If you are worried that you might have a serious infection, a malignant growth or an injury that won’t heal you need to see your GP.
We can provide complementary care for conditions that require a physician’s attention – for instance, we often treat patients for the side effects of chemotherapy. But we need you to take responsibility for your own health.

The community setting requires some flexibility from you. We recommend you to book in your next appointment so we can work in a more structured way, however, we also accept walk in patients, as long as you’re prepared to wait for few minutes in case we’re busy treating someone else.
In a similar way, if you want to book your next appointment and we are busy, please find the slot that suits you better and write your name down in the timetable form you will find at the waiting room.
We also need you to participate in making yourself comfortable in the community room. So, for instance, if you dislike snoring we encourage you to bring earplugs to your treatments, some patients even bring their favourite pillows or blankets, that’s fine with us.

The soothing atmosphere in our clinic exists because all of our patients create it by relaxing together. Maintaining this reservoir of calm requires that no one talk very much in the clinic space.
Rescheduling and making payment happens at the front waiting room BEFORE each treatment, so you can relax and enjoy the treatment.

Acupuncture is a PROCESS. It is very rare for any acupuncturist to be able to resolve a problem with one treatment. On your first visit, the acupuncturist will suggest a course of treatment based on our experience.
The purpose of our sliding scale is to help you commit to the process of treatment in order to get good results.
And last, but not least…enjoy the space. We hope that ‘The Bright room’ community acupuncture clinic can be an important part of your community.
